Former professional boxer Tony Bellew is coming to Whitehaven to discuss his career, and his experience of the hard-hitting industry of boxing.

Bellew, who held the World Boxing Council’s cruiserweight title from 2016 to 2017, will be at The Solway Hall in August to talk about his career as a boxer, during which time he won 30 of his 34 fights, lost three, and drew once.

Fans will even get the chance to meet the retired boxing superstar, with meet-and-greet tickets available for £60. The lucky lot who meet Bellew will have the chance to chat to the Liverpool man, as well as get a picture with their boxing hero.

Bellew, who appeared in the 2015 film, Creed, will visit Whitehaven’s Solway Hall on Friday, August 2, giving two one-hour talks about his career as a professional boxer, before his retirement last year.

Explaining the reason for his retirement in an interview after his final fight, the 36-year-old said: “I can’t take it anymore, my body can’t take it.”

At regional level, Bellew also held the British and Commonwealth light-heavyweight titles between 2010 and 2014, the European cruiserweight title from 2015 to 2016, and is a three-time ABA heavyweight champion as an amateur.

Between Bellew’s talks, “the most versatile comedian and entertainer in the UK today”, Jed Stone, will be performing his stand-up set, making sure the evening gives people food for thought and fits of the giggles.

Doors open at 7pm, and tickets start at £50.
