Workington Town picked up a second pre-season victory, this time over a young Huddersfield Giants outfit.

After a slightly shaky opening, Town settled into the game and began to score at regular intervals as Leon Pryce aimed to get a good luck at his squad, plus a handful of amateurs off the bench.

Town looked to put some early pressure on but the final pass from Sean Penkywicz to the supporting Andy Litherland was fumbled and then the young Giants side wer marched down the field with a penalty.

And they made the field position pay as Ross Whitmore crashed over next to the post, leaving an easy two-pointer for Izaac Farrell to tag on.

But Town lifted themselves back up and Penkywicz popped a nice ball out of the tackle and into the arms on the onrushing Gordon Maudling who went over in the corner. Carl Forber's conversion just didn't quite make it and Workington trailed by two points.

A great run from Litherland saw the centre nearly take himself over the line but he just spilled the ball in the tackle.

The home side made the most of a penalty near the Giants try line and a quick play the ball from Penkywicz went straight to Caine Barnes who powered over the line, with Forber converting to put them in the lead.

Elliott Miller showed a great turn of pace as he scythed through the Giants defence to leave them trailing behind him as he went on to score with Forber converting.

And just moments later he was in for his second of the afternoon. Forber again tagging on the extras to send Town 22-6 clear.

Ryan Fieldhouse joined in the race to the try line after 26 minutes, fighting his way to the whitewash and Forber made no mistake from wide out with the extras.

A great move that started with Danny Tickle saw Miller pop up a lovely ball to Fieldhouse and he upped the pace to race through and score, Forber adding his fifth conversion of the afternoon to make it 34-6.

It was a quiet opening to the second half with no real chances for either side until a nice passing move from Town had the crowd excited but the final pass from Miller just came off a Giants defender to go dead.

There were 55 minutes on the clock before Town picked the scoring back up when Seaton amateur Dominic Smallwood put out the pass for Caine Barnes to get a second try, with Danny Tickle's conversion attempt coming back off the post.

Town were working hard in defence as well as in attack and Perry Singleton halted one Giants charge with a great tackle as he wrapped up Adam Walne.

But then the Giants struck back with a try of their own when Finley Bruce got over the line but they couldn't convert and Town were soon back in the ascendency.

Tyllar Mellor went over wide out against his former club and Forber, back on and kicking, added the extras from the touchline to bring the score out to 44-10.

And as the full time hooter sounded Town racked up the 50-point mark. A high bomb was Forber was fumbled by the Giants and Mellor reacted well to pick up the ball and race over in the corner.

Forber finished with a flourish as he racked up the 50th point with a pin point conversion from the touchline for a final score of 50-10.
