Two junior West Cumberland Orienteering Club members have been selected to compete for Great Britain at the 2019 World Schools Championships in Estonia.

Isabel Sunley has been selected for the junior girls’ team and Rosie Spencer has been selected for the senior girls' team following the recent selection race while fellow members Emma Crawford, Lily Regan, Oliver Heron-Southward and Charlie Rennie are reserves.

This week’s night event took place at Keltonfell Top, near Lamplugh, and competition was tight on the 4km long course but Rennie came out on top in a time of 26:55 mins, a second ahead of Simon Hunter in second with David Spencer third. Niamh Hunter was first lady in eighth.

On the 2.95km short course Roger Thomas took another win in a time of 28:18 ahead of Roger Jackson and Lily Regan. Daisy Rennie took the win on the novice course, with Tom Hope second and Harry Woodall third.

Sunday saw the latest event in the series of Cumbrian Galoppens at Leaps Beck, near Lamplugh.

On the longest 8km brown course there were five club finishers in the top ten with Simon Hunter second, Mike Harrison third, Joe Sunley fourth, John Slater sixth and Jamie Rennie eighth.

On the blue course the club had the top nine finishers as David Spencer took the win, Joe Hudd was second, Ben Breeze third, Alan Irving fourth, Steve Holmes fifth, Ollie Heron-Southward sixth, Paul Neild seventh, Steve Breeze eighth and Jeff Goodwin ninth.

Club members also dominated the 4.4km green course with Herbie Ashworth taking the win, Caitlin Irving first female in second, Pete Hudd fifth, Lily Regan sixth, Roger Thomas seventh, Ian Teasdale ninth and Richard Cummings 10th.

On the 3km short green course Catherine Wetherfield took the win, junior Daisy Rennie had an impressive run to finish third, Kim Leslie sixth, James Birkinshaw eighth and Janette McHendry ninth while on the light green course the club had Myrtle Ashworth fifth, Alex Crawford sixth, Isaac Hunter seventh, Emily Heron-Southward eighth and Emma Crawford 10th.

On the 2.73km orange course Hannah Birkinshaw finished third, Isabel Winskill sixth and George Rennie seventh as on the 2.08km yellow course the consistent Hiroki Holmes finished third, Sophie Crawford fourth and Maisy Winskill ninth.
