Two Whitehaven AFC sides went head-to-head in the West Cumbria Youth Under-16 League at the weekend, beating the weather on Saturday.

In a close battle, the Amateurs’ under-16 side just edged out their under-15 side 3-2.

Bransty Rangers under-16s and Maryport Amateurs’ under-15s played out a 3-3 draw with nothing to choose between the two sides while Cleator Moor Celtic’s under-16s won 9-0 at home to Workington Reds’ under-15s.

Maryport Athletic under-16s got the better of visitors Cockermouth Panthers under-15s 4-1.

In another encounter, Workington Wanderers Whites under-15s won away from home 5-1 at the home of Whitehaven Miners Social under-15s.

The final match at this age group saw Workington Reds Blacks under-16s defeat Cleator Moor Celtic under-15s 4-1.

Turning to the under-14 league, Whitehaven AFC Juniors won a mid-table battle with Maryport Athletic 5-2 while Cleator Moor Celtic continue to pile the pressure on the leaders, beating Dearham Rangers 7-0 to state their intent.

Cockermouth Cougars won 5-3 on the road against Workington Reds’ Black side while Dearham had beaten Cockermouth Cougars 6-2 the day previously.

Four games went ahead in the under-13 league, as Whitehaven Miners Social bagged a 5-3 win over visiting Workington Reds Juniors.

Seaton United were confident in their 9-2 victory over Cockermouth United while Senhouse Juniors picked up the points after a 4-1 win over Maryport Amateurs.

The last game saw Seaton Athletic welcome Whitehaven AFC Yellows and it was the home side who took the spoils 4-1.

Cleator Moor Celtic Greens remain on top of the pile in the under-12 red division, with a 5-1 win at Maryport Amateurs.

Workington Reds Juniors’ Black side continued to push up the table when they put four past Seaton Athletic without reply.

Whitehaven AFC Yellows are in third place after they edged a tight game with Workington Reds’ Red side 1-0.

Turning to the under-12 blue division and there was only one game played.

Whitehaven Miners Social continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 9-2 win at Silloth Mini Gulls.

In the girls’ leagues there was plenty of action as four games went ahead at under-12 level.

Table-toppers Whitehaven AFC Whites kept up the pace at the top thanks to a 7-1 victory at Cockermouth Juniors with Moor Row edging out Workington Diamonds White 3-0.

Whitehaven AFC Blues made it a double for the Copeland club as they also recorded a win, 1-0 over Maryport Amateurs.

And the final game saw a seven-goal thriller between Workington Diamonds Red side and Allerdale Girls with the Diamonds just edging it 4-3.

Both under-14 girls league games ended in deadlock in a closely contested division.

Whitehaven AFC and Maryport Amateurs played out a 1-1 draw with 2-2 the final scoreline between Cockermouth Juniors and Whitehaven AFC Blues.
