Outstanding forward Andrew Dawson is set to prop up the Workington Town pack after signing a new two-year deal.

Dawson's tough-tackling and strong-running style saw him become a firm fans' favourite this season after joining the club from Barrow Raiders.

And officials at Derwent Park are delighted that he has chosen to stay and stake his claim for a place in Leon Pryce's side again next season.

Town chairman, Les Smallwood, said: "The club is delighted to welcome Andrew back to the club for the next two seasons.

"Bruie has been outstanding this season and has been a pleasure to watch. He never takes a backward step and lays a fantastic platform for our backs to work off.

"He is consistent and he rejoins many of the awesome pack from the 2018 season.

"We’re always looking to invest in local talent and he fits the bill exactly. He’s great to have around the team and is well respected by his team mates and everyone at the club.

"We look forward to welcoming him and his lovely family at Derwent Park for the next two seasons."

Dawson said it was an easy choice for him to remain at Workington, saying last term was the best of his career so far.

And he is keen to make next year even better and aims to help Workington to the promotion they narrowly missed out on this year.

"It was an easy decision to make, last season was the best of my career and there was no reason to leave," said Dawson.

"I love the set up, be it training in Teds, CrossFit, or on the field, it was all well planned and professional, which a lot of that is to do with Matt Johnson.

"As for next season, obviously we will look to go one step further and gain promotion and I aim to play my part in that."
