Hensingham and Egremont amateur rugby league clubs have helped to raise over a thousand pounds in memory of their former coach Jacky Davidson.

The two sides recently played in the inaugural Jacky Davidson Memorial match, set up to remember Mr Davidson, who died last year.

And between the donations at Jacky’s funeral and the money made at the game, over £1,300 was raised. And, as was Jacky’s wish, the money was presented by his wife Joyce to the youth sections of both clubs.

In the match, for much of the first half the two sides matched each other pretty equally with only a converted try separating them, With Egremont holding that slender lead at 6-0.

However, with eight minutes to go in the half, and much greater possession, Egremont took advantage of a tired Hensingham defence and ran in three unanswered tries to go into the break 20-0 up.

Hensingham came out for the second half refreshed and with three tries of their own fought back to 20-16 at the mid point of the half.

Much like the first half though Hensingham tired towards the end and Egremont took advantage of this, scoring three tries in the last 10 minutes to win 36-16.

Egremont’s tries came courtesy of Mitchel Edwards, James McDonald, Marcus O’Brian, Matt Hutchins, Pat Wells and a brace for Matty Henson.

Matt Bewsher and Joe Bold both landed two conversions.

Hensingham replied with two tries for Craig McAvoy and one for Sam Rossi with Josh Hillier converting two.
