KELLS have been working hard to shore up their defence ahead of tonight's clash with Toronto Wolfpack.

Peter Smith's side are raring to go for the Challenge Cup fourth round tie at Whitehaven's Recreation Ground, ko 6.15pm.

And he is calling for the supporters to come down in their droves and get behind his team as they clamour for an upset.

"We want to see as many people down there as possible," said Smith.

"I know it is Cheltenham Gold Cup day but if people fancy making a day out of it then we want to see them down there.

"The prices are not that high to be able to see a top class professional side and an amateur team coming through the ranks. So come and see what we can do.

"We just want as many people to come and cheer the lads on, we want their help to play these guys and give us encouragement from the side."

Smith has named a 19-man squad ahead of the tie, with players chomping at the bit to be included.

Although Dom Wear will be unavailable after injuring himself in Kells' National Conference League draw with Myton last weekend.

"We have done a lot of defence work and looked at our attacking options but we are under no illusions about who we are taking on," added Smith.

"The task we face is huge but we will stick in there and do our best."

Toronto Wolfpack director of rugby Brian Noble also knows Kells will be out to make an impression.

He told the club's tv channel: "They will rock up and will probably give the best performance of their careers in many respects.

"A lot of them will be trying to impress the local professional teams.

"And I'm sure the community of Kells will come down in numbers, with others from Whitehaven and Workington.

"Everybody wants to see the shock result. Everybody wants to take a scalp."
