Whitehaven-born shot-stopper Dean Henderson could earn his first England Under-21 start this weekend.

The Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper has been called up to Aidy Boothroyd's squad on previous occasions but he is yet to win a cap at this level.

But, with injuries to the other two keepers named in the squad, this could be Henderson's chance to shine.

The Under-21s take on Romania in a friendly at Wolves’ Molineux on Saturday, in the Cyrille Regis International.

And Henderson, on loan from Manchester United, is fit and raring to take his opportunity.

Angus Gunn, on loan at Norwich from Manchester City, and Newcastle's Freddie Woodman, on loan at Aberdeen, are both currently nursing injuries heading into the weekend.

"We have a back and hip little issue with Angus and Freddie," said former Watford boss Boothroyd. "Because they're both goalkeepers we've taken them out of the firing line, as a precaution. I'm hoping both will be fine."

The friendly will be in memory of former West Brom and Wolves striker Cyrille Regis, who died suddenly in January.

Henderson was part of the squad that won the Under-20s World Cup last summer.
