Workington Comets have signed Bradley Wilson-Dean to a short-term deal as cover for the injured Mason Campton.

Wilson-Dean guested for Workington earlier this month against Edinburgh Monarchs after Campton broke his wrist in four places while practising at Leicester.

The 23-year-old, who rides for parent club Somerset in the SGB Premiership, scored eight points plus three bonus for reserve when he guested for Comets.

And the Kiwi impressed enough to earn a 28-day contract with the club and is set to ride for the club in meetings against Berwick, Peterborough and Scunthorpe, with Campton hoping to return to the side for the trip to Sheffield on May 24.

Club owner Laura Morgan said: “Bradley proved to be a very good guest for us against the Monarchs after which we spoke to him about securing his services as a short-term replacement while Mason was on the sidelines.

“He was very keen to help us out but before we could progress that line of action we needed to see what Mason was told when he visited the hospital in the middle of last week.

“Thankfully, Mason does not need an operation, but unfortunately he still faces a further four weeks out of action.

"However, armed with that knowledge we have brought Bradley in as cover until Mason is fit to return to the side as we have a fair number of important matches to race before that date.

“We are sure Bradley will do a fine job for us and having him as a regular member of the side while Mason is out injured is much more preferable than having to keep booking guests.

"Then, once Mason is fit to return to the track he will slot back into the side in place of Bradley.”
