Workington Comets boss Tony Jackson insisted his side will not get carried away despite remaining unbeaten with two dominant away wins at the weekend.

Comets destroyed Peterborough 57-33 on Friday night before putting Glasgow to the sword in a 56-33 thrashing on Sunday.

The results have highlighted Workington as serious contenders in the SGB Championship and Championship Shield but Jackson admitted he had not seen the wins coming and said there would be no complacency from his team.

“We’re not going to get carried away, we’re just taking it one match at a time,” he said.

“But if Friday didn’t make teams sit up and take notice then this certainly will.

“To say we exceeded expectations would be an understatement.

“You always go into these meetings hopeful but at the end of the day there are no easy matches in this league.

“Our boys are just on fire at the moment, they’re really going well.

“We always said it was a team where you looked down the lineup and from No1 to No7 you could make a case for anyone to win races home or away.”

Mechanical gremlins for Glasgow No1 Chris Harris worked in Comets’ favour but Jackson was quick to point out that his side have suffered plenty of bad luck and did not believe Harris could have saved the Tigers even if he was firing on all cylinders.

“Chris Harris is a class rider and for him to only get paid three is an off night which probably won’t happen too many times,” he said.

“But you make your own luck and we’ve been on the end of bad luck in the past so I’m pleased we were able to capitalise on it.

“We were solid all the way through.”

Meanwhile, the league fixture against Scunthorpe at Derwent Park on Saturday has been postponed due to Nicolai Klindt, Dan Bewley and Bradley Wilson-Dean being called up for Grand Prix qualifiers. Their next home meeting will be against Glasgow in the Championship Shield on June 2.
