Workington Town star Jamie Doran was over the moon to mark his 100th game for the club with a win – though he admitted his century of appearances came as a surprise.

Doran, who marked the milestone with a win at home to Keighley Cougars on Sunday, said: "I didn't know it was my 100th game on Sunday so that was a bit of a surprise. It was a nice moment.

"I thought first half we were very poor in the pack but our defence was on it and they couldn't break us down; they got six points from our discipline penalties.

"Going in at half-time, Leon [Pryce] gave us a roasting.

"Second half we completed our sets, kicked early and just did the basics really to get the win."

The victory, which included a try for vice-captain Doran, means Town are two points clear of the teams below them but still trail Bradford and York by six.

They are in a strong position to reach the League One play-offs and secure a home tie but Doran is adamant they cannot let the opportunity slip while it is in their hands.

"What we've said is that we'll only lose games if we beat ourselves," he said.

"We've got enough to beat most teams in this league, if not them all.

"We're just going week by week and the first challenge was to beat Keighley.

"To be sat in third is good for us and it's only us that can lose it.

"Staying there then going into the play-offs and getting a home tie would be massive for us, so we need to not get too ahead of ourselves.

"We've still got to travel to Bradford which isn't going to be easy when you saw the score against Whitehaven and we've got York to come, then Doncaster away which will be hard."
