Haven player-coach Carl Forster wasn’t a happy man after his side’s 20-0 defeat at Oldham.

Back-to-back defeats for the men from the Recreation Ground, both away from home, have really dented Haven’s hopes of a top-five finish in Betfred League One.

He questioned his side’s attitude under pressure and it’s ability to break down resolute defence; hardly surprising given that, following their 46-0 defeat at Bradford, Haven have now gone 160 minutes without putting a point on the scoreboard.

Forster said: “We’re very disappointed, obviously, but we can’t be too downbeat because there’s still 10 points at stake.

“We have to brush ourselves down, look at where we went wrong and get ready for what lies ahead of us.

“We defended really well for the first 25 minutes, but when you defend as much as we had to do, it inevitably takes something out of you.

“Nevertheless, when we review the game it will be a tough review because it’s all about attitude for me."

“Leading 12-0, all Oldham had to do in the second half was complete their sets, do their tackling and drill the ball into touch,” he added.

“Their halves, Dave Hewitt and Paul Crook, controlled the game and played it at their pace.

“But I questioned our attitude a bit when it got tough.

"With three minutes left, we were saying all the right things, but it was too late then. We should have been talking like that 20 minutes earlier.

“You can’t play like we did against good teams, and Oldham are a good team. There’s a lot going wrong with our attack and I’ll take responsibility for that as player-coach.

“I know we’ve had injuries, but we were at strength today and we can’t keep blaming injuries.

"All teams have injuries. It’s perhaps more relevant to us because we have such a small squad.

“There can be no excuse for some of the performances today. We’ve a little bit of soul-searching to do and, like all good teams, we’ve got to learn how to play when we are under pressure.

“That’s where attitude comes in. We’ve got to respond positively.

"If we don’t step up to the mark, we’ll get to the last game of the regular season and the season will be over.”
