Jordan Holt is back at Workington Reds and looks set to play his part in this afternoon’s league opener at Borough Park against Stafford Rangers, ko 3pm.

The midfielder has re-joined Reds on loan from Carlisle United after a successful spell at Borough Park last term.

Joint manager Dave Hewson snapped up the talented youngster after the unexpected departure this week of Arron Bradbury.

“We obviously know all about Jordan as he has been with us before,” explained Hewson.

“He has already proved that he is a really good addition to the squad so we are really pleased to have him back.

“And that we have managed to get this deal done in such a short time is great for us.

“It looks like he will go right into the side to face Stafford and this is just a massive boost for the squad.”

Holt spent much of last season on loan at Borough Park, featuring in 40 games and scoring two goals in the process.

Hewson is also hopeful that Dan Wordsworth may play some part, after returning from a close season hernia operation.

The defender may be named on the bench but if he doesn’t feature today, Hewson believes he will make his return within the next week.

Promising new signing Kieran Maguire is missing today and for Tuesday night’s trip to Bamber Bridge but Reds will still have a strong side out today.

Hewson and joint manager Lee Andrews were pleased with how all the new additions have shaped up in pre-season.

And they may have unearthed a gem in the form of midfielder Brad Hubbold who has been outstanding since signing for the club.

But Hewson is keen not to put any pressure on Hubbold as he makes the step up to league action.

“Brad has been a bit of a surprise package, he has shown a lot of potential and now it is down to the crunch,” admitted Hewson.

“He will start and play on Saturday and that’s where we will really see how he copes with the demands of our league.

“But I am confident with his attitude and quality he will have not problem in doing that.

“I am looking forward to seeing him come on after a good pre-season. And that is all down to his attitude and how he has approached pre-season.

“It is not easy coming in to a new squad and making a big step up but he has fit in perfectly, it’s as if he has been with us for a couple of seasons.”

He added: “But we are not getting carried away, he is showing great potential but there are a lot of games to play and the demands of this league are very high.

“But I am confident that he can make this step up as long as we are all patient and supportive.”
