Workington Reds take a trip into the unknown tonight when they visit Evo-Stik Premier League newcomers Bamber Bridge.

Although the clubs have met on several occasions over the years, it will be the first time they have met at this level following Brigg Town’s promotion.

Reds joint-boss Dave Hewson said: “I knew absolutely nothing about them until I spoke at the weekend to another manager who gave me the low down.

“From what he tells me they are a footballing side who like to get the ball down and play, so I’m expecting it to be a bit different to Saturday against Stafford. It’s a fairly new stadium with a good playing surface so there should be no excuses for us to play the way we like as well.”

Reds will have to make one change to the starting line-up from Saturday when they got off to a winning start by beating Stafford Rangers 1-0.

Jordan Holt, who is on a month’s loan from Carlisle United, suffered a groin strain and will be rested for tonight’s clash, in the belief that he will be fit again to resume on Saturday when Reds are at home again to Buxton.

Joint-manager Lee Andrews said: “I think he did it fairly early on in the game but said he was alright to carry on. He was struggling a bit afterwards.”

Reds will call up a member of the reserve squad and the management duo will make a late decision on who gets the nod to take his place in the starting line up.

Bamber Bridge opened their season with a creditable 1-1 draw at Grantham Town on Saturday, which was a sound result against a team expected to be in the mix for a play-off place this time round.

Ryan White gave promoted Bamber Bridge the lead two minutes into the second half at The Meres but Cenk Akar earned the Gingerbreads a point 10 minutes later.
