A Win is vital to restore confidence, declared Workington Reds boss Dave Hewson, ahead of their FA Cup tie at Knaresborough this afternoon.

With £9,000 at stake for the winners of the second round qualifying tie, this is a big match for the club.

But Hewson says it is even bigger for his players to get a win under their belts and realise their full potential.

"We are in desperate need of a win so regardless of what competition we are in, be it league or cup," said Hewson.

"I think myself, Lee and the squad are just focused on getting a victory because I think we need it for confidence in the squad as that has taken a knock at the moment. And a win gets that back.

"The game being in the FA Cup gives us that extra bit of motivation. It is a massive game for the club with the money that's at stake.

"We haven't had a good run in the FA Cup for a few years so we want o make sure we are in the hat for the next round."

Hewson is delighted that he and joint manager Lee Andrews are seeing players returning to add to a selection headache for them.

"We have pretty much a full squad to choose from apart from Josh Calvert who is a long term problem," said Hewson.

"He had his operation on Thursday so we are giving him a couple of days recovery and then we might know more as to how long he will be out

"Niall Cowperthwaite will be back available for the squad but I think it will be too early for him to be ready to start in this game.

"Other than that then the squad will be similar to the one that went to Hednesford last Saturday."

The management duo have done their homework on their opponents today and warned they would not take them lightly.

He added: "I know what I need to know about them and in the FA Cup league positions go out of the window.

"This is the biggest game Knaresborough have had in a long time and they will be confident at home, especially after they put seven past Kendal in the previous round.

"They are in a lower league and will be the underdogs but we will not make the mistake of underestimating them, they will be a tough side."
