Cumberland Cup action was in the spotlight at the expense of Smurfit Kappa Cumberland County League games as postponed fixtures affected by Storm Callum were staged at the weekend.

The two ties which pitched teams from the County League against the Westmorland League favoured the Smurfit Kappa teams as Bransty Rangers travelled to Castletown and came away with a 4-1 win.

Scorers for the Whitehaven-based team were Connor Holliday with a hat-trick and an extra goal from Bradley O’Pray.

Wigton Harriers were involved in a much closer encounter against Wetheriggs as Tom Hill supplied the only goal of the game.

County League teams drawn against each other in the cup came up with a mixed bag of results.

CMB Newlaithes went down 2-1 at home to Netherhall, with Ronan Irving scoring for Newlaithes, while Pirelli won the battle of the two Premier Division teams when they inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Cockermouth as Scott Priest, Matty Storey and Ricky James collected the goals.

Aspatria are going strong in the top flight and entertained Division One newcomers Workington Reds Juniors. In a close encounter Aspatria went into the hat for the second round with a narrow 3-2 victory with Shaun Smith scoring and a brace from Malcolm Graham while the Reds replied with efforts from Tommy Whitehead and John Price.

In the league games which did go ahead, Whitehaven Miners and Silloth were involved in a high-scoring Division One game with visitors Silloth taking the honours 5-3.

Miners found the net through Paul McNally and Chris Moore, one of which was a penalty, while Silloth replied with goals from Andy Hinde, Graeme Dixon, Spencer Irving and a brace from Kieran Little.

There were plenty of goals when Gosforth made the trip north to take on Carlisle City Development, with Jack Denwood notching five goals in the away side's 6-1 win with the other courtesy of Owen Woodburn. Ryan Holmes provided some consolation for the young City team.
