Lidl is rolling out a change at UK checkouts to make shopping more flexible.
Following a successful friends-and-family trial in three stores last year, seven more areas will gain access to the feature that is said to “enhance the customer experience”.
The introduction will allow customers to scan products as they shop, track their spending and savings in real time.
I don’t just bargain shop in Waitrose - I also like to maximise my savings in the discounters. £16.32 saving yesterday in Lidl.
I have changed most of my shopping to Aldi and Lidl. They sell good food at reasonable prices and of course I love a bit of middle aisle action! pic.twitter.com/WOOUvWJfB8— Sam Raincock (@SamRaincock) April 25, 2026
Customers will also be able to complete their purchases quickly at a self-checkout terminal – all through the existing Lidl Plus app.
Lidl & Go will now be available across seven stores based in Airdrie, Cardiff, Epsom, Glenrothes, Kingston, Guildford, and Eastleigh.
The next phase of the trial is set to “provide the insights needed to optimise and enhance the customer experience ahead of any further rollout,” according to the discounter.
Lidl GB chief customer officer Louise Weise said: “This trial is another step forward in our digital evolution, giving shoppers a smarter, faster, and more flexible way to shop.
“As we continue to invest in Lidl Plus, our focus remains on making the shopping experience simple and rewarding.
“Whether a customer chooses a traditional checkout, self-service, or the autonomy of self-scanning, our priority is ensuring they have the flexibility to shop on their own terms.”
The expansion follows the latest phase of the Lidl Plus experience, which introduced points earlier this week.
According to the supermarket, shoppers now have more choice in how they’re rewarded and a way to save even more on their shop, following customer demand for greater flexibility in how rewards are earned and used.
Lidl shoppers unhappy with latest update
In regard to Lidl's Plus Points, shoppers haven't taken kindly to it so far.
One shopper said: "Unless there are additional points opportunities it’s a big downgrade.
"Essentially 1% discount now, compared to previous 10% off when reaching £250, free bakery items+ other items along the way."

Another wrote: "I was loyal because of the 10% discount and various freebies on the way.
"I’d even spend more just to get up to target.
"The new points system is far worse a deal. Seriously considering going back to Aldi and Sainsbury’s from this week".
