AS Town Councillor for Corkickle South, I'd like to put on record that I do not endorse Cllr Roberts' continued presence as a fellow town councillor.
Having not been party to the meeting reported on by Whitehaven News, I had submitted my apologies due to being on a charity walk from Thursday through to Sunday.
Being a councillor is a privilege, even at this hyper-local, voluntary level, and should not be taken for granted.
You are there to represent your constituents, the wider town and its associated areas.
Your actions as a private individual should also uphold that standard of conduct.
Cllr Roberts' actions and apparent lack of remorse make his position untenable.
Despite our friendly and productive terms prior to the allegations arising for which he was convicted, I urge him to do the right thing and resign.
