A Beatrix Potter exhibition has been opened by Whitehaven Town Council, with the clerk thanking two residents for their 'amazing contributions'.
The Beatrix Potter Exhibition opened in the Whitehaven Town Council building located on Queen Street on July 22 and will run until August 28, with the town council’s clerk saying it has already been ‘very well received’.
The exhibition features knitted displays and interpretive panels that bring the stories and characters of the beloved Victorian author to life.
It will run throughout the school holidays, with contributions from the Amrit Museum and Library in Ambleside.
During the town’s full council meeting on Thursday, July 30, the clerk sent out a ‘special thanks’ to Anne Bullock and Eileen Marshall for ‘all the wonderful knitting and crotchet Beatrix Potter characters that they supplied’.
She added: "Everybody has been aghast, they thought we had got them from the museum, and I have said no those were provided by local people. They came in and volunteered... wouldn’t even take money for the wool."
The exhibition is open over the school holidays from 10am to 4pm, with last entry at 3.30pm.
In a statement on social media, the town council also paid thanks to The Armitt Museum, Gallery and Library for loaning the information boards.
