A ROAD in Whitehaven is set to be closed for a further 21 days due to a sewer collapse.

The closure on Meadow Road was originally put in place on Tuesday, July 30, and was set to last for 21 days.

However, a further 21-day emergency notice has now been issued.

The closure is in place on Meadow Road from its junction with Latrigg Road to its junction with Skiddaw Road, extending in a south-easterly direction for approximately 120 metres.

A suitable alternative route will be signed and made available via the unrestricted sections of Meadow Road, B5345 Meadow View, Ginns, Preston Street, New Town, Swingpump Lane, Strand Street, Duke Street, Scotch Street, Irish Street, Lowther Street, A5094, Back Corkickle, Inkerman Terrace, A595 and the Hensingham Bypass.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

Access for emergency services will be managed as required during the emergency restriction.
