A YOUNG boy was rescued after getting into difficulty in the water off Maryport Pier.

Maryport Rescue lifeboat was launched following reports the youth had entered the sea and drifted a considerable distance offshore.

He was recovered safely by the crew and checked over by Coastguard Rescue officers from Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team before being released.
