Cumberland Council have confirmed that major planned road works in Whitehaven have been 'pulled'.
Road works that would have closed a lane of Inkerman Terrace, the main road leading into Whitehaven, were expected to start on July 20.
The closure was due to scheduled utility works by Electricity North West, and would have lasted 42 days.
However, work had not yet begun and the signs announcing the closure had been taken away.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Cumberland Council said: "We've had confirmation that ENW have pulled the works, and they will not be going ahead until a later date."
This date is not yet known, but the order for the original works allows eighteen months from July 20 for work to be completed.
