Cross Hill in St Bees is set to shut from its junction with Main Street, stretching in a north-easterly direction for about 70 meters to its junction with Finkle Street.
The planned closure is expected to last 26 days from August 10.
An alternative route will be available via Main Street, Outrigg, High House Road, Grindilla Place, and Finkle Street.
The scheduled closure is part of a larger operation by Cumberland Council to replace gas mains in various locations, including Scotch Street in Whitehaven and Goldsmith Road in Egremont.
The work is set to begin on August 10, and is expected to last for five months in total.
The council has said that suitable diversion routes will be clearly marked on site.
Pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be able to use the roads throughout the period of the works.
