A WHISTLE heard late at night prompted a mountain rescue alert on Scafell Pike.
At 1.50am on July 23, North West Ambulance Service received a call from a camper in the valley who reported hearing a whistle high up in the area.
The alert was logged at grid reference NY 21669 07294 on Scafell Pike.
After speaking with the caller, a mountain rescue team leader determined the sound did not follow a distress pattern.
Lights checked on the fell appeared steady and showed no signs of concern.
After reviewing the information with Cumbria Police, the decision was made not to deploy mountain rescue.
The area to search would be extremely large with no reliable indication of a person in difficulty.
The call was treated as being made with good intent.
The alert was closed at 3.16am.
