Whitehaven's Beacon Museum has achieved a 97 per cent rating in their latest VisitEngland quality assessment.
The museum earned the score in an assessment conducted earlier this month, marking an improvement on its previous rating.
Councillor Anne Quilter, executive member for vibrant and healthy places at Cumberland Council, said: "This is an excellent result for The Beacon Museum and a real endorsement of the quality of experience it offers.
"Achieving a 97 per cent rating from VisitEngland reflects the strength of the museum’s exhibitions, learning programmes and overall visitor offer.
"The Beacon never ceases to amaze with their programme, always giving visitors something new to see and get involved in.
"I’d like to thank the staff and volunteers whose hard work and warm welcome make such a difference."
The VisitEngland assessor praised the museum’s clear and helpful pre-visit information, as well as its community education and learning schemes.
The permanent collections, temporary exhibitions and friendly approach of both paid staff and volunteers were also highlighted as key strengths.
Heather Holmes, customer and visitor experience manager at the museum, said: "This recognition reflects the dedication of everyone involved in delivering the visitor experience at The Beacon Museum.
"From our staff and volunteers to our partnership with Howling Wolf Artisan Bakery and Café, it is a testament to the pride, professionalism and warm welcome that visitors receive every day."
A spokesperson for the museum said in a statement: "This assessment highlights the strength of The Beacon Museum’s offer and the dedication of the team behind it.
"With it’s blend of high-quality exhibitions, learning opportunities and a warm welcome for all visitors, the museum continues to play an important role in Cumberland’s cultural offering."
