A section of town centre road remains closed to protect the public during asbestos removal works.
Lowther Street in Whitehaven is shut from its junction with Chapel Street, as part of efforts to safeguard the public as asbestos is removed during refurbishment works at The Cumberland’s branch in the town.
A spokesperson for The Cumberland said: "We are currently carrying out refurbishment works at our Whitehaven branch, which include the safe removal of asbestos by specialist contractors in line with all relevant health and safety regulations.
"These essential works form part of our investment in improving the branch for customers and colleagues.
"We apologise for any inconvenience the refurbishment may cause and thank customers and the public in Whitehaven for their patience and understanding while the work is completed.
"The safety of our customers, colleagues and contractors remain our top priority through the project."
The temporary road closure, which extends approximately 10 metres northwest from the junction, is expected to remain in place for up to 15 days from June 14 but could remain for up to 21 days.
Whitehaven Town Council shared details of the restriction on June 18.
A spokesperson for the council said it had been implemented "due to the likelihood of danger as a result of asbestos removal."
