Copeland residents are being urged to stay alert following reports of door-to-door sales activity.
Copeland Police say anyone selling goods or services on the doorstep must hold a valid peddler's licence and should be able to show it on request.
Police said: "While not everyone knocking on your door has bad intentions, residents should know that anyone selling goods or services door-to-door are required to have a valid Peddler's License.
"If someone approaches your home offering products or services, don't be afraid to politely ask to see their license."
Residents are advised to ask for identification, take their time with decisions, and report anything suspicious to the police.
Police said: "Never feel pressured to buy on the spot.
"A legitimate sales person should have no problem providing proof that they are authorised to conduct business."
Officers also urge the public to follow their instincts and to contact police if something feels off.
