Cumberland Council validated the application on June 1 from Mrs Marlene Jewell as trustee of Keekle Village Hall, a charitable incorporated organisation.
The application seeks to install solar panels across the roof of the building, over the entranceway, the kitchen, and the main hall space.
Cumbrian solar PV installation company, Love Solar, surveyed the village hall in February 2025 and calculated that around £523,672 could be saved in in the solar panels' expected lifetime of 25 years.
If installed, the system is expected to generate 13,877 kWh per year, with this figure gradually decreasing as the solar cells degrade.
Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells (PV) which absorb sunlight and convert it into a direct current of electricity.
The direct current is then converted into an alternating current, which is safe for use in people's homes.
Over the solar panels' lifetime of 25 years, it is thought that they could generate around 326,069 kWh in total, with 277,158 kWh consumed on-site and 48,910kWh exported.
The initial system cost is expected to be around £16,709.26, but factoring in projected costs, benefits for inflation, and Love Solar's 4% discount rate, the company stated that the village hall could recoup this cost within four years.
Carlisle Diocesan Board of Finance under the Church of England have given their backing to the plans with some conditions in place as landlord.
Cumberland Council are yet to make a decision on the application.
