Rosehill Theatre is launching new 'Relaxed Screenings' and 'Silver Screenings' this month.
The Whitehaven venue will introduce the new showings in May and June.
According to the venue, there will be regular morning showings in a "calm, supportive environment" with practical adjustments designed to help audiences enjoy films in a "way that suits them".
Jen Garrick, CEO of Rosehill, said: "When we found out that Rosehill would benefit from one of the new bus services introduced by Cumberland Council this January, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to make our programme more accessible now that our building is as well.
"Being able to introduce more weekday activities during the day is something we've wanted to do for some time, and we hope that this trial proves popular so we can continue to expand our offer."
Taking place on Mondays at 11am, 'Relaxed Screenings' will see adjustments such as lower sound, consistent low-level lighting, and subtitles designed to support accessibility.
Visitors will also be able to move around during the film.
The venue describes the environment will be ideal for parents with babies, individuals who find traditional cinema settings challenging, or anyone looking for a "sociable, stress-free" start to the week.
The upcoming relaxed screenings programme includes:
- Monday, May 18: Mother's Pride
- Monday, June 1: Rental Family
- Monday, June 8: You, Me and Tuscany
- Monday, June 15: The Sheep Detectives
- Monday, June 22: The Ballad of Wallis Island
Alongside the 'Relaxed Screenings', the 'Silver Screenings' are scheduled for Friday mornings at 11am, and are tailored for retired audiences.
The venue says these screenings are designed to be sociable and unhurried, featuring low-level lighting, a scheduled interval, and subtitles.
Rosehill Theatre said these screenings are "designed to prioritise comfort and ease, encouraging audiences to take their time and enjoy the experience."
The silver programme includes:
- Friday, May 15: Mother's Pride
- Friday, May 22: The Roses
- Friday, June 5: You, Me and Tuscany
- Friday, June 12: The Sheep Detectives
- Friday, June 18 (Thursday): The Choral
- Friday, June 26: I Swear
Both screening types will benefit from free parking with accessible bays, and an on-site café open before, during, and after the films.
Tickets are priced at £6 and include a complimentary cup of tea, coffee, or squash.
Both programmes are timed to coincide with the new 1/1A bus service, designed to make it easier for visitors—especially those using free travel for over-65s—to access the theatre.
Rosehill recommends checking the Stagecoach website for details on routes and asking drivers to stop at the theatre.
The cinema programme has been made possible through sponsorship from AXIOM.
A spokesperson for the cinema said: "With a focus on flexibility, comfort and community, Rosehill hopes the new screening programmes will open the doors to those who may not always find traditional cinema settings accessible, as well as offering something new for regular visitors."
Visitors are encouraged to book tickets in advance, though walk-ins will be accommodated where possible.
