Moresby Hall has welcomed its fair share of guests over its four hundred year history, perhaps never more so than in its most recent few years as a luxury hotel.
The deluxe Whitehaven getaway is described as an "immersive stay in charming ‘chocolate box’, English countryside surroundings" near the Lake District.
Located in Whitehaven near entertainment venues including the Rosehill Theatre and Solway Hall, the hotel has attracted a whole host of celebrity guests spending the night in one of their rooms.
From a controversial politician, to stars of stage, screen and sport, here are the celebs who have been to stay at Whitehaven's Moresby Hall.
James Cosmo
In December 2023, Game of Thrones star James Cosmo spent a night at the hotel while promoting his new whisky, Storyman at Richardsons of Whitehaven.
His pre-Christmas visit is said to have included a gift to the hotel of a bottle of his own whisky.
The 77 year-old Scottish actor has starred in more than 130 Hollywood films over five decades on screen with iconic roles in Braveheart, Highlander, and Trainspotting.
Nigel Farage
March 2024 saw Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage spent the night in the luxury Whitehaven hotel while appearing at the Solway Hall.
He is said to have described his experience as "a wonderful stay."
The 62 year-old right-wing politician was one of the biggest advocates of Brexit as UKIP leader in 2016.
Bez
Bez, or Mark Berry, also dropped in on Moresby Hall in March 2024, although not on the same night as Farage.
The dancer, DJ, and maraca enthusiast of Happy Mondays fame spent the night after an appearance at the Rosehill Theatre.
The 62 year-old won Celebrity Big Brother in 2005 and is regularly seen on Celebrity Gogglebox with fellow Happy Mondays performer, Shaun Ryder.
Ian Botham
Botham is Moresby Hall's most recent celebrity guest, with a stay in September 2025.
The hotel team were bowled over by his appearance and managed to grab a picture with the legendary England cricketer, commentator and member of the House of Lords.
Botham has been chairman of Durham County Cricket Club since 2017 and is known for his charity fundraising.
