A new talk is set to shine a light on Cumbria’s industrial past.
The event is part of The Beacon Museum’s monthly Talking Tuesday series and is set to explore the 19th-century rise of Cumbria as an "industrial powerhouse" fuelled by its rich geology and natural resources.
Led by Mike James, the session will take place from 2pm to 4pm on Tuesday, April 14, under the title 'Cumbrian Powerhouse 19th Century Style – Iron, Coal, Limestone and Steel'.
Thousands of years ago, what started as a tropical sea led to a myriad of industrial activity for Cumbria and the West of England.
Our region was at the centre of fuels and resources, including haematite, coal and limestone which helped support the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century.
Mr James will explore how geology shaped the region’s development, tracing a path from the formation of the Earth to Cumbria’s role in supporting railways across the globe.
'Cumbrian Powerhouse 19th Century Style' will take place at The Beacon Museum on April 14 between 2-4pm and tickets cost £5 per person.
