Money taken from criminals is being put back where it belongs, into Cumbria’s communities and into the future of our young people.
When I was elected as Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, I made a clear promise to invest in our communities and our youth.
Through our Community Fund, we are delivering on that promise.
Grants of up to £2,500 are now available for community groups, youth organisations and sports clubs across the county.
Some of this funding comes directly from money seized from criminal activity, including from money we have seized from drug dealers, instead of funding crime, it is now funding opportunity.
We are already seeing the impact.
Wath Brow Hornets, Seaton Rangers ARLFC and Glasson Rangers are using funding to provide kit and equipment.
Army Cadet groups are benefiting across Cumbria.
Boxing clubs such as Carlisle Villa and Wigton Boxing Club are helping young people build confidence, discipline and ambition.
These organisations are at the heart of our communities.
They give young people purpose and direction, helping keep them away from crime and on the right path.
I have heard from many parents that there’s nothing for kids to do and that it is no wonder that kids end up on the streets – this funding is to help get kids off the street, into a safe place at night and learn new skills that set them up for life.
