"SPECIAL" Lake District pub serving "perfect" food, has been described by reviewers as a "must visit, a "hidden gem", and the best spot for "hearty" grub in the region.
Located in the village of Boot, in the Eskdale Valley, the Boot Inn - known as a cosy resting place for mountaineers - has a long and storied history, serving travellers since the 17th century, in a building that dates back to the 1500s.
The pub continues to offer rooms to weary hikers, while also serving up strong food and drink options, including hearty British favourites like Cumberland sausage, steak and ale pie, minted lamb shoulder and a full Sunday dinner list.
At the time of writing, the Boot Inn has an outstanding 4.7/5 rating on Google Reviews (1,122 reviews) and an equally impressive 4.5/5 rating on TripAdvisor (425 reviews).
Reviewers have heaped praise on the pub's "superb food" and "really friendly team". One person said it was their "favourite" place in the Lake District and that they'd "lost count" of how many great meals they had had at the Boot.
Another reviewer said it was a "lovely place" in "beautiful surroundings". They complimented the "warm fire", "excellent service", "nice beer", "friendly staff" and their "delicious meal" which they say featured lots of gluten-free and vegetarian options.
Recounting a recent trip, one reviewer said: "I ate here twice recently whilst staying nearby on a hiking trip. The food was simply some of the best pub food I've ever had, and very generous portions.
"Corned beef pie was rammed full of beef, and the roast was excellent; I needed to lie down for a nap after it! Absolutely top quality and great service from friendly staff."
"I stopped at The Boot Inn for lunch while exploring the beautiful Eskdale Valley, and it was the perfect choice," said someone else.
"The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a lovely traditional feel that makes you want to linger. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier, and they went out of their way to make both me and my dogs feel completely at home. It’s a truly dog-friendly spot.
"The highlight, though, was the food. I had the steak and ale pie, and it was absolutely outstanding - without a doubt one of the best I’ve ever tasted."
