Two new play areas to be built in Whitehaven suburb

Councillor Anne Quilter, executive member for vibrant and healthy places at Cumberland Council, said: "It’s great to see progress being made on new play facilities for Bransty.

"These proposals offer a real opportunity to create safe, welcoming spaces for families and children.

"We’re keen to hear residents’ views as we shape the final designs, and I’d encourage people to take part in the consultation."

The larger of the new play areas will be built on the grounds of Bransty School, intended for children aged four and above.

It will be open to the public outside of school hours and accessible via South View Road.

A second, smaller play area will be developed for preschool-aged children beside the community gardens near Harbour View Nursing Home and the playing field.

This site is adjacent to the community garden managed by Bransty CIC.

A public consultation will take place on January 29 from 3.30pm to 6pm at Bransty School.

Residents are invited to share their ideas and preferences for the equipment and design of both spaces.

Councillor Joseph Ghayouba, who represents Bransty, said: "I’m pleased to see us hitting another key milestone in the delivery of a playpark for Bransty, and I urge as many parents and children to come along to the consultation and respond online too."

The new facilities will be funded by Cumberland Council. 

A spokesperson said this reaffirms the council’s commitment to "restoring this much‑needed community provision and creating safe, modern, and inspiring spaces for local children to enjoy."
