A MISSING person search and rescue operation took place during a coastguard training exercise.
The exercise, which also included casualty extraction, was carried out by Whitehaven Coastguard during its first training session of the year and was designed to help refresh and build essential skills.

The session took place on Wednesday, January 7.
Whitehaven Coastguard said: "A short Lost and Missing Person Search and casualty extraction for our first training session of the year last night."

Coastguard teams are trained to respond to a wide range of coastal emergencies, including rope, water, and mud rescues, casualty evacuation, incidents involving vessels in distress, and lost or missing persons searches.
They are also trained to respond to reports of suspicious items such as ordnance or pyrotechnics.
