KEVIN Sinfield CBE has urged Workington and Whitehaven residents to rally behind his latest MND challenge.
On December 5, the rugby league legend will tackle the fifth leg of his '7 in 7: Together' venture, running ultra-marathons in seven regions across the UK and Ireland over just seven days.
Sinfield will set off from the Fibrus Community Stadium in Workington at 8.40am on Friday, December 5.
Arriving at the Recreation Ground in Whitehaven at around 2.46pm.
The ambitious feat is to raise funds for six motor neurone disease charities, in memory of his friend and former teammate Rob Burrow CBE, who died from the disease in 2024 at the age of 41.
Burrow was a professional rugby league player who spent his career at Leeds Rhinos.
In 2019, he announced that he had been diagnosed with MND.
In a letter to the people of West Cumbria, Mr Sinfield expressed the urgency of the situation for people living with MND, stating that 1,800 individuals were diagnosed in the 300 days since the end of last year’s challenge.
Mr Sinfield said: "As it stands, each of them will have been told there is no treatment, there is no cure.
"This year, we need your help more than ever.
"Each year this challenge gets harder, and people with MND just don’t have time to wait.
"All of us have a huge part to play in writing how the story ends and together we can all play our part in one big team – united behind our shared vision of a world free from MND."

Mr Sinfield is also encouraging people to take part in the '7 in 7: Together' initiative in more tangible ways.
Whether part of school or sports clubs, businesses, or organisations, all are being prompted to get involved in fundraising efforts.
Support can take many forms, including cheering the team on as they pass through the region, making donations, or creating their own 7 in 7 challenge.
"Together, we’ll keep banging the drum, keep raising hope and keeping going – for Rob and for the entire MND community," he added.
