A FUNNEL cloud has been spotted over the skies of West Cumbria.

People have been taking to social media to share photos of the strange formation, which reportedly appeared in the Bigrigg area.

Funnel clouds are extending, spinning fingers of cloud.

These cloud formations reach towards the ground but never touch it; if they do touch the ground, they become a tornado.

Weather conditions are expected to worsen across the UK this weekend as winds are expected to reach speeds of 80mph in some parts of the country.

In the south west of England and in Wales, a yellow weather warning is set to come into place.
