A BANNED driver who got behind the wheel following ‘domestic issues’, has since lost his job, a court heard.
Abdal Owarth, 31, was stopped by police while driving a BMW on the A595 in Workington on April 16.
Pamela Fee, prosecuting at Workington Magistrates’ Court, said officers were concerned that the defendant was disqualified from driving.
Owarth had been banned from driving for 16 months after being convicted of drug-driving in October last year.
He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle on a road without insurance.
John Cooper, defending, said: “He has gifted the car to his brother during the period of disqualification. Both were working at Sellafield. He’s an engineer.
“He got in the car because of domestic issues. He made the decision to drive off. I assume somebody has made the decision to call the police.
“There’s nothing in the manner of driving. He wasn’t going far.
“He’s lost his job at Sellafield because of this. He’s now living back in Middlesbrough.”
Owarth told the court he had driven from Egremont when he was stopped by police.
Magistrates disqualified Owarth for 12 months and ordered him to complete 40 hours of unpaid work.
Owarth, of Willows Road, Middlesbrough, must also pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
