A look at what life was like at Cleator Moor in the noughties

There have been some big changes in the 20 years since this era, but some of these things remind us that things haven't changed in the area all that much.

Cleator Moor sits at the bottom of Dent Fell which dominates the sky line over the town.

In the 19th century the town became populated by Irish immigrants who came to work in the mines, earning Cleator Moor the nickname Little Ireland.

This was a time when the Queen celebrated her Golden Jubilee, the Millennium Dome was officially opened in London, the Tate Modern art museum is opened to the public in London, the England national football team participated at Euro 2000, jointly hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium, and Great Britain competed at the Olympics in Sydney and wins 11 Gold, 10 Silver and 7 Bronze medals.
