An arts centre near Egremont is preparing to unveil a new exhibition exploring the West Cumbrian landscape.

Florence Arts Centre is set to host a free launch event on Thursday, January 16, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The exhibition, titled 'Arcadia (revisited)', is a creative collaboration between artists Irene Godfrey, Jenni Hodgson, Maggie Learmonth, and several guest artists from West Cumbria.

It aims to present a 'sensorial expression of place and weather', capturing the artists’ observations and perceptions.

The artists, each with ties to different landscapes, have come together in recent years to reflect on the West Cumbrian landscape in their work.

Clare Parker, Ian Hinde, Rob Mitchell, and Alison McAdam, guest artists who participated in a recent workshop, will also have their works featured in the show.

The exhibition aims to "explore ideas about Arcadia as nostalgia for an idealised past and perfect landscape."

It will encourage visitors to question their perception of landscapes, whether it is merely a view, and whether this view is fixed or evolving.

Following the launch event on January 16, the exhibition will run from January 17 to April 20.

Operating hours are Fridays from 11am to 4pm, as well as Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm.

The Thursday evening launch event has free entry and requires an RSVP to director@florenceartscentre.com.
