Men bailed following firearms investigation in Whitehaven

FIVE men who had been arrested during an investigation into a firearms incident have now been released on bail. 

The individuals had been arrested after it was reported that a group of men had been seen with a single firearm. 

The group was reported to have been at Meadow Road, in Mirehouse, Whitehaven on Friday, March 29. 

Three men were initially arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm following the report at 2.50pm, on March 29. 

The other two men were arrested later that day  – one on suspicion of possession of a firearm and another on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Several properties have been searched by officers during the inquiry.
