A public consultation on the future of the former Copeland area of Cumbria is in its final stage.

The proposed plan, named the Copeland Local Plan 2021-2038, details potential development in the region.

The scheme has undergone development over the past five years and already experienced four primary stages of public scrutiny from 2019 to 2022, before submission to the Secretary of State for Public Examination.

Copeland Council presented the Publications Draft Local Plan during this examination stage.

All parties concerned were given the opportunity to voice their reservations or agreements to this Draft Plan.

Consequently, based on these varied responses and public discussions held last year, the inspector has pinpointed several potential adjustments that warrant consideration.

These modifications are yet to be finalised by the Cumberland Council, pending further input from the public.

Therefore, it is now the public's opportunity to share their views on these proposed changes.

The consultation is limited to focusing on the inspector's main modifications and alterations to the proposals map.

The deadline for public input is Thursday, March 28.

Interested individuals can access the consultation documents at Cumberland Council Offices in Whitehaven's Market Place, or in libraries.

These include those located in Cleator Moor, Egremont, Frizington, Gosforth, Seascale, Millom, and Whitehaven during their usual opening hours.

Alternatively, copies of these documents and comment forms are available for viewing on the council’s website.

Directed at gathering public opinion on these matters, representations made must be in writing on the representation form.

The council encourages all comments to be sent via email or post by the aforementioned deadline.

Correspondence should be addressed to localplanconsultation@cumberland.gov.uk or the strategic planning team at the Market Hall in Whitehaven.

Interested parties can also request to be informed about the publication of the Inspector's Report and the adoption of the Copeland Local Plan.
