KELLS ARLFC have completed their nine-mile walk which has currently raised more than £2,000 for a supermarket worker recovering from a devastating accident.

The players from Kells ARLFC swapped their rugby boots for walking boots as they tackled walking Coledale Horseshoe over the weekend to support Sharon Graham, who was left with lifechanging injuries following a fall at home.

With money still pouring in, the fundraised amount currently stands at £2,145.

Sharon was has been described as a community champion for Morrisons supermarket in Whitehaven. She is regarded as a ‘huge part of the community’ who went ‘above and beyond’ to help others. Sharon’s son, Jordan plays for Kells ARLFC when on leave from the army, and her grandson, Archer, plays for the under-10s team.

The team completed the nine and a half walk mile on Saturday which included the Grisedale Pike, Hopegill Head, Crag Hill, Sail, and Outerside. There were certainly a few 'sore legs' following the hike.

Peter Smith, head coach at Kells ARLFC, said: “We have raised over £2,000 and there is more money  to come for a very worthwhile cause for Sharon.

“It was a tough one to do but it was all for a worthwhile cause. We came back and Sharon's husband shook our hands which was nice. If there anything that we can do to help, then it is all well and good.”

Support for the team during their efforts flooded in on social media, with one person saying: "What an awesome sense of community."

There have been numerous fundraising efforts to support Sharon, including a crowdfunding page created by Jordan Mattinson which raised over £18,000. There was also a Christmas day marathon by Chris Young.
