WHITEHAVEN Town Council is set to host an event to really warm the sole - and a Whitehaven News reporter will be taking part.

A 'firewalk' will take place on Tuesday, February 20, and it's possibly their most unusual community event to date.

Reporter Brandon Mawson will be braving the fiery coals to raise money for the Macmillan nurses and if anyone wants to support him they can pop into Richardson's on Lowther Street and leave some sponsorship there.

The big question though is who is going to join him?

Gerard Richardson, one of the organisers, said: "I'm delighted that we have a reporter volunteer from the News. Now I'd like to see someone from BBC Radio Cumbria or someone from the team at Cumbria Guide.

"The event will be lovely though, it's being held at 5.30pm and it would be lovely if one of the local cafes could be open to sell hot chocolate to participants and their families who turn up.

"It's a rather unusual way of bringing the community together but hats off to the town council for thinking outside the box."
