THE window of the former Burton's store in Whitehaven has been decorated with historic photos of the town.

The town council approved a scheme to dress them with old images of the town centre in conjunction with the owner of the building.

They decided to do this after meeting with the owners as it’s one of the most prominent retail units on the high street and spans the two most used streets, Lowther and King.

Whitehaven Mayor, Chris Hayes said: "Whitehaven Town Council is delighted we were able to do this in time for Christmas and we hope people enjoy the images and the temporary change it brings to that particular building."

Businessman Gerard Richardson said: "I think it’s great and whether people view it as art or just a few old photos, is up to them but the main point is to get folk talking and to add some new value to the high street experience.

"It complements the photo displays that we still have in various windows around the town and the annual exhibitions we run in St Nicholas Gardens. Well done to the town council."
