THIS Christmas people will be given the chance to enjoy a ride on historic buses.

On Boxing Day the Workington Transport Heritage Trust will be hosting its annual bus rides in West Cumbria.

Buses will pick people up in Whitehaven taking them along a coastal route to St Bees where they we taken along the front.

The Heritage Trust has been very active in recent years and in 2022 and 2023 they have hosted events at Whitehaven harbour.

People were given the chance to observe the buses and also enjoy rides around the town and through to Lillyhall where the buses were originally manufactured for decades.

The iconic Leyland buses were a common site around West Cumbria for years and are part of the area's engineering heritage.

A spokesperson said: "After a good few years of not doing any Boxing Day buses, we're back.

"This time it's the former 20 services, running from Whitehaven to St Bees via the beach.

"This will be run using a selection of our preserved buses and volunteer drivers.

"The service is free to use but donations are more than welcome."
