The countdown to Christmas is well and truly under way and if you are looking for a festive day out look no further than Barrow-in-Furness.

The town is all ready for a fun packed final run-in to Christmas – with a host of events designed to lift your festive spirits!
Tomorrow, there’s free family fun with a snowy-seasonal theme spread across Barrow town centre. Activities include an ice rink, a curling rink, a snowboard simulator, toy testing and creative workshops.
It’s all part of a Town Centre Stamp Card Trail – visit each location to collect your stamp and you will be in with a chance of winning a Christmas prize bundle. The wonderfully seasonal Saturday event runs between 10am and 4pm and offers a great chance to spend some quality Christmas time with the family.
To add to the pre-Christmas excitement buskers will be performing throughout the town centre to fill the air with seasonal music as you complete your Christmas shopping. And to add an extra beat to your Christmas bonanza the Boom Dang drummers will be performing on the same Saturday afternoon at Barrow Outdoor Market between 2.30pm and 3.30pm. It’s a free event for the whole family – so head along for a dance and enjoy the beat of the drums.
At Barrow Market Hall on Friday, December 22 it’s that moment every youngster has been waiting for – a chance to visit Father Christmas in his grotto. Pop along for the festive family treat between 1pm and 4pm. And if you like to leave your Christmas shopping until the last moment, you won’t miss out on the festive entertainment. On the final weekend before the big day (Saturday, December 23 and Sunday 24) buskers will once again fill the air with festive music throughout the town centre. And the really good news is that after snow disrupted earlier running of the marvellous Santa Express train in the town centre, it’s coming back! You will be able to hop onboard for free rides around the town centre on the weekend of Saturday, December 23 and Sunday 24 – just in time to complete any last minute Christmas shopping.
What better way to spend a day out over Christmas than with a trip to the panto? This Christmas the magical Jack and the Beanstalk comes to The Forum in Barrow. In this telling of the traditional tale Jack gets sent to Barrow Market to sell the family’s lovable cow. The panto runs from December 12 right up to Saturday, December 30. Tickets are available via The Forum box office. For more Christmas inspiration visit www.visitlakedistrict.com
