THIS weekend saw the return of the Whitehaven Christmas Light Switch On.
Organised by the Town Council, the event took place on Saturday, November 18.
Crowds flocked to the marketplace to enjoy entertainment from local musicians along with other acts, there was also a fair on the harbourside for children to enjoy.
Everyone was delighted with how the switch-on went and when the time came the streets were beautifully lit up with the festive decorations.
The mayor of Whitehaven, Chris Hayes, said: "It went well, it was a quiet start at first because of the weather then Logan Paul Murphy, The Beatles Boy, got up and performed which was amazing.
"We had another act who got the crowd dancing and singing, and later on, Robbie Dee came on board and got everyone involved, the second sets from the musical acts were superb also.
"We had some guys walking around singing Christmas carols dressed as Christmas crackers, they walked through the town.
"There were some dance groups, one group, The Dance Ranch, had young children performing, some as young as three years old, which was unbelievable. Just seeing these little tots dancing was brilliant.
"It was a slow start but as the afternoon progressed into the evening you could see there were a lot of people turning up, I was shocked by how big the crowd was.
"The event was very good and the feedback that I've seen on Facebook has been amazing, so obviously it worked.
"The fairground was located on the marina again and that went down a storm as usual."
Mr Hayes said that he thinks the Christmas Light Switch On will have benefitted the town and he has had a good response from shop owners and pubs.
Many shops and pubs said what a great day it had been for them, saying that they'd had a good flow of business and the light switch on had been nice to see.
The next Christmas event in Whitehaven will be the markets held on December 8 in St Nicholas' Gardens, there will also be a fireworks display on the harbourside in the evening.
