MAYFIELD School is marking the start of the Yuletide season with a community Christmas Market.

Held on Saturday, December 2, the event is open to all and includes Father Christmas and his elves, festive shopping, arts and crafts, tombola and raffle.

The market – which also provides inclusivity attractions such as a sensory room – will be held at the school’s Whitehaven site from 10am-2pm.

Kathryn Metcalfe, chair of the Mayfield School Development Fund which organises the event, said: “We want to welcome the whole community because we have worked hard to ensure there is something for everyone from Santa’s gifts to hand-designed Christmas cards, face-painting to live music.’’

A wide variety of stalls will provide gift ideas for everyone, and will include a stall – creating games for children and adults, as well as a lucky dip - manned by pupils.

Festive food highlights will also include Christmas Day buns, cooked fresh by local chef Stuart Metcalfe, made from turkeys donated by Paul O’Halloran from O’Halloran’s restaurant at Egremont’s Falcon Club.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the Mayfield School Development Fund, which has previously contributed towards the purchase of two school minibuses.

Kathryn said: “We are so grateful to everyone who supports the event. It couldn’t happen without them.

“We always have such a fun time and the money raised ensures our pupils have the best opportunities to meet their needs in a creative and accessible way.’’

Raffle tickets will be available on the day, with entry to the event costing £1.
