St Bees School has announced that the village bonfire night will be postponed this year.

This is due to a potential outbreak of the vomiting bug Norovirus.

The event has been postponed until Friday, November 10, and will be held between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

A spokesperson said: "As is common within all schools at this time of year, St Bees School has a potential outbreak of the highly infectious 'Winter Vomiting Disease', known as Norovirus.

"In order to keep our whole school and village community safe, we have taken the decision to postpone the St Bees School Village Bonfire to Friday, November 10 from 4.30-6.30pm.

"We are incredibly sorry for the inconvenience this may cause and hope you can all still join us on the new date."
